Skin basics

A thoughtful routine starts with the basics.

A starting point for choosing skincare without overcomplicating it.

It can be tempting to add a product for every concern. Begin by understanding what you already use and how your skin responds.

Keep the foundations simple

Gentle cleansing, moisturising and sun protection are useful foundations. Choose products that fit your skin and budget instead of assuming that a longer routine works better.

Read sunscreen labels

Look for broad-spectrum protection, SPF 30 or higher and water resistance. Follow the application and reapplication directions. Shade and protective clothing also matter.

Keep a short product record

Note the product name, start date and how it feels. If you have persistent irritation or a skin condition, seek advice from an appropriately qualified clinician rather than adding more products.
